Legal Method commonly refers to a set of techniques used to analyse and apply the law; and to determine the appropriate weight that should be accorded to different sources of law.

Legal and non-legal method of contraception are different in different countries.

In India, the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 (Act No.34 of 1971) was promulgated (put into effect by official proclamation) by Parliament to provide for the termination of certain pregnancies by registered medical practitioners. The Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act creates no legal bar whatsoever to the use of Emergency Contraceptive.
