Why law of segregation operates at anaphase 1 ? It should operate at anaphase 2 as the 2 sister chromatids of same chromosome seperate from each other at anaphase 2 so the 2 allele which are present on sister chromatids of chromosome also gets separated along with sister chromatid and goes to gamete finally

During anaphase II, the third step of meiosis II, the sister chromatids of each chromosome separate and move toward opposite poles. Once they are no longer connected, the former chromatids are called unreplicated chromosomes.

"Mendel's Law of Segregation can be seen in Anaphase I. Mendel's law of independent assortment can be seen in Prophase I (pachytene substage).

As in anaphase II crossing over is not there , and for law of independent assortment Crossing over is must which takes place in Pachytene stage of Prophase 1.

But why not law of segregation operates at anaphase 2?

Croosing over will be there when there will be exchange of genetic material . In case of Meiosis which is generally divided into Meiosis I and Meiosis II , In Meiosis I there is crossing over during pachytene and you must know there is no Croosing over or formation of Chiasmata during Meiosis II.

So, without crossing over there will no exchange of genetic material which is necessary for the segreggation of alleles and formation of new combinations , leading to the law of Segregation .

Again , no crossing over in Meiosis II ( Anaphse II), there will be no exchange of material , no new combination of allleles, all will be parental , therfore no operation of Law of Segregation.
