NEET Zoology Biomolecules Questions Solved

A competitive inhibitor of succinic dehydrogenase is

(a) Malonate

(b) Oxaioacetate

(c) α-ketoglutarate

(d) Malate

(a) Succinic dehydrogenase oxidised the succinate to fumarate. Malonate, an analogue of succinate, which is a strong competitive inhibitor of succinate hydrogenase and therefore, blocks the activity of citric acid cycle in eukaryotes.

In Krebs' cycle the reversible hydration of fumarate to malate is catalysed by fumarase enzyme.
