Following are the features of genetic codes. What does each one indicate ? Stop codon; Unambiguous codon; Degenerate codon; Universal codon. (2 marks)
Stop codon : It does not code for any amino acid. It terminates the synthesis of polypeptide chain, for example, UGA, UAA, UAG.
Unambiguous codon : One codon codes for only one amino acid.
Degenerate codon : Some amino acids are coded by more than one codon, for example, ACU, ACC codes for threonine.
Universal codon : Genetic code is same for all organisms, for example, UUU codes for Phenylalanine (phe) in bacteria as well as in humans.
