Our farmers still use DDT. How is this affecting the local population ?              (3 marks)

DDT is a non-biodegradable substance accumulated in the body of local birds. It cannot be metabolised or excreted. High concentration of DDT disturbs calcium metabolism in birds which causes thinning of eggshells and their premature breaking, eventually leading to decline in bird population.
