With the following help of a schematic diagram, explain the location and the role of the
following in a transcription unit:
Promoter, Structural gene, Terminator.
Schematic structure of a transcription unit
Promoter: It is a DNA sequence that provides binding site for RNA polymerase. It
is the presence of a promoter in a transcription unit that also defines the template
and coding strand.
Structural gene: The DNA sequence coding for mRNA or tRNA or rRNA
Terminator: It is present towards 3' end of the coding strand. It ends the process of transcription.
