The sacred groves of Aravali Hills and Ooty botanical garden both aim at biodiversity conversation. How do they differ in their approaches ? Explain (3 marks)
(i) In the sacred groves of Aravali Hills we conserve and protect the whole ecosystem. Biodiversity
at all levels is protected. We save the entire forest to save the tiger. This approach is called
in situ (on site) conservation.
(ii) Ooty botanical garden is showing ex-situ conservation. In this approach, threatened plants are
taken out from their natural habitat and placed in a special setting where they can be protected
and given special care.
