Alien species invasions is one of the causes of biodiversity loss. Explain with the help of an example. (2 marks)
When alien species are introduced, they compete with the native species and cause decline or extinction of indigenous species.
Example : The Nile perch introduced into Lake Victoria in East Africa caused the extinction of more than 200 species of cichlid fish in the lake. Parthenium, Lantana and Eicchornia are the exotic species of plants that have invaded India, caused environmental damage, and posed a threat to our native species.
