Why is Agrobacterium tumifaciens a good cloning vector? Explain.
1. Agrobacterium tumifacien is a soil bacterium which causes a disease in many dicot plants. It is able to deliver a piece of DNA known as T-DNA, to transform the normal cells into tumor cells and direct these tumor cells to produce the chemicals required by the pathogen.
2. The tumour inducing plasmid of agrobacterium tumifaciens has now been modified into a cloning vector.
3. It is no more pathogenic to the plants but still deliver genes of interest into a variety of plants.
