How are the following colloids different from each other in respect of their dispersion medium and dispersed phase? Give one example of each.
(i) Aerosol (ii) Emulsion (iii) Hydrosol
(i) An aerosol: It is a colloidal solution in which dispersed phase is a
solid and dispersion medium is a gas.
Example: Smoke, haze.
(ii) An emulsion: The colloidal solution in which both dispersed phase and
medium are in liquid state.
Example: Milk, cream.
(iii) A hydrosol: The colloidal solution where water is used as the dispersion
medium is called hydrosol or aquasol.
Example: Starch sol.
