This method of finding a gene is used when researchers know very little about the gene they are trying to find. This process results in a complete gene library: a collection of copies of DNA fragments that represent the entire genome of an organism.
(2) Shotgun cloning
(3) Gene synthesis cloning
(2) Shotgun cloning involves cutting the DNA of the entire genome into pieces with restriction enzymes, inserting these pieces or fragments into bacteria or yeast with plasmids or viruses and allowing the organisms to reproduce making copies or clones of the DNA fragments.
