Golden rice is:

1. A variety of rice grown along the yellow river in China
2. Long stored rice having yellow colour tint
3. A transgenic rice having gene for β-carotene
4. Wild variety of rice with yellow coloured grains


(3) Golden rice is a genetically modified crop with enhanced nutritional value. It is rich in vitamin-A, β-carotene and was developed at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.

It contains ‘β carotene’ gene from daffodil plant and also genes from some bacteria. Golden rice prevents child blindness which is caused due to the deficiency of vitamin-A.
