A moss plant produces a large number of antherozoids but relatively only a few egg cells. Why ? (2 marks)
A moss plant produces a large number of antherozoids but relatively a few egg cells as in most of the organisms. Male gametes are motile whereas the female gametes are not. Water is the medium through which male gametes are transferred to female gametes. A large number of the male gametes are not able to reach the female gametes. To compensate the loss of gametes during transport large number of antherozoids are produced by bryophytes.
